All Classes – To build background for reading The Diary of Anne Frank, students watched a video called Dear Kitty.  In the film the life story of Anne Frank is told with quotations from her diary and images of the place where she was hiding, photos from the family album and historical film material. Students also read pp. 340-345 in the textbook.  These pages discussed the elements of drama, more background information, and a timeline of events in Anne Frank’s life and related World events.

On-Level Homework

  • Finish reading if not completed in class pp. 340-345
  • Study for Quiz Thursday on The Elements of Drama pp. 340-341

Advanced Homework

All Classes – We introduced the next unit “Harmony and Discord” by discussing that the words are antonyms and the connotations and denotations of the words.  We looked at a few transparencies of art works and discussed whether those pieces of art communicated harmony or discord.

On-level Classes Homework:

  • Quiz Thursday, November 19, over Elements of Literature: Drama pp. 340-341.  This is review as we went over this before reading The Monkey’s Paw at the beginning of the semester.

Advanced Classes – Finished watching the BBC Video version of Hound.

All Classes:

  • We will visit the school book fair on Monday, November 16.
  • We will begin building the background for our next unit “Harmony and Discord” Monday.  Literature for this unit includes the screenplay of The Diary of Anne Frank.
