Who is Mrs. Street?
Since so many of you are just getting to know me, I thought I would take a moment and cover the basics.
I am married, and I have two sons: Alex, 18, a senior at Independence High School, and Keller, 14, a freshman at Milton. We all love animals, and we have several pets. We have two dogs (Bailey and Georgia), two parrots (Flapper and Blossom), two cats (Phoebe and Sammy), and a bunny (Steve).
I graduated from the University of Georgia. Woof! Woof! I also have a master’s degree in middle grades education from Mercer University.
Both of my sons attended Northwestern so I have a good understanding of the school from both a teacher’s and a parent’s perspective. This is my 11th year at Northwestern. While I have been here, I have taught social studies, reading, language arts, and science.
I am the head coach of the girls soccer program at Milton. This will be my fifth year coaching there. I love soccer and the opportunity to “hang on” to some of my students for a few extra years is a bonus. We have a terrific soccer program at Milton.
I stay very busy with my family, teaching (and grading!), and coaching, but in my spare time I enjoy reading and spending time with my friends – most of whom are also teachers. I also like to look at that website with the cat pictures and the funny captions (http://icanhascheezburger.com/). There is no place I would rather be than the beach. I like to laugh, and we tend to do a lot of that in my classes. I tell way too many embarrassing stories about myself and my sons – which mortifies them and that only encourages me. One of my favorite quotes is from George Eliot: “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” I wear this on a bracelet and it helps remind me never to give up on my students. I am always going to believe in you.
I love chocolate and pink flamingos. I also really love my job and my students. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you this year. We can work together to have a fantastic year!
